How to Convert CSV to a Markdown Table

  1. Paste CSV text into the input box or open a .csv / .tsv file.
  2. The delimiter is detected automatically. Pick one manually if the result looks wrong.
  3. Choose column alignment and whether the first row is a header.
  4. Copy the Markdown table or download it as a .md file.

Example

This CSV:

name,role,city
Anna,Designer,Berlin

becomes this Markdown table:

Pad columns adds spaces so the table lines up in plain text. It does not change how the table renders. Turn it off for the most compact output.

FAQ

Which delimiters are supported?
Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. Auto mode detects the delimiter from the data, so CSV exported with European settings (semicolons) and TSV pasted from a spreadsheet both work.

What happens to pipe characters and line breaks inside cells?
Pipe characters are escaped as \| so they do not break the table, and line breaks inside quoted cells become <br> tags, which GitHub and most Markdown viewers render as line breaks.

My CSV has no header row. What happens?
Untick First row is header and the table gets generic Column 1, Column 2… headers, because Markdown tables always need a header row.

Is there a size limit?
There is no fixed limit, since everything runs in your browser. Files with tens of thousands of rows work, but a Markdown table that large is hard to read; consider splitting it.
