How to Convert HTML to Markdown

  1. Paste HTML code into the input box, or open a saved .html file.
  2. To convert part of a web page, select it in your browser, copy (⌘C) and paste here. The formatted version is used, not just plain text.
  3. The Markdown updates as you type. Copy it or download it as a .md file.

What Gets Converted

HTMLMarkdown
<h1>–<h6># to ######
<strong>, <em>, <del>**bold**, _italic_, ~~strike~~
<a>, <img>[text](url), ![alt](src)
<ul>, <ol>, checkboxes-, 1. and - [x] lists
<pre><code>Fenced code blocks
<table>Pipe tables (first row becomes the header)
<blockquote>, <hr>> quotes and ---

Scripts, styles and iframes are removed. Classes, inline CSS and layout elements such as <div> are dropped — only the content and its structure remain.

FAQ

Can I convert a whole web page to Markdown?
Yes. Select the part of the page you want, copy it, and paste it into the input box. The converter reads the formatted version from the clipboard, so headings, links and lists are kept. You can also save the page as .html and open the file.

Which Markdown flavor is produced?
GitHub Flavored Markdown: ATX headings (#), fenced code blocks, pipe tables, strikethrough and task lists.

What happens to scripts, styles and inline CSS?
Script, style and iframe elements are removed. Inline styles, classes and other attributes have no Markdown equivalent and are dropped; only the content and its structure are kept.

Is my HTML sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser tab.
